The best cook books on my shelf are those that prompt me to try new ingredients, combinations and colours. I think hard about what specific nutrients our bodies need and for what purpose, to make sure what we eat leaves us feeling really good!

Food from the Fire by Sweden’s Niklas Edstedt is a stunning inspiration for outdoor cooking – back to basics with just a fire. This book comes with me on every camping trip (which is most weekends April-October). Everything in Niklas’s Stockholm restaurant is cooked on an open fire. I’ll write a separate post about this book and the outdoor cooking this has inspired in my life, so do sign up for my newsletter updates.
Being Swedish, I love taking ideas from my roots. The Nordic Cook Book by Magnus Nilsson is a fascinating journey through Nordic cooking traditions. Explore everyday “husmanskost” right through to bizarre creations like Puffin stuffed with cake from the Faroe Islands! Outdoor lovers will also adore the beautiful imagery throughout.
I’m soon going on a foraging weekend trip, which I’m really excited about. So Wild Food by Roger Philips is a great resource for edible mushrooms, greens, roots and more.
Deliciously Ella and 26 grains have been great drivers for me in setting up Chalk & Moss. These books help keep me focused on holistic wellbeing, making sure I consider not only how nature affects us in the home but also what to put inside our bodies.
Jerusalem and other books by Yotam Ottolenghi speak for themselves really. He’s the master in delicate and aromatic food combinations that blow you away!
And of course, Jamie Oliver is always fantastic for any tip you might need. He’s got a fabulous chicken tikka salad in “15 Minute Meals“, that’s packed with delicious greens, lentils and the most amazing turmeric/cashew/coriander sauce.
I just unwrapped Made in India, by Meera Sodha. What a stunning and inspiring birthday present from my dear friend. I can’t wait to give it a whirl!

I make lots of smoothies and food to help my daughter’s insomnia and my son’s weak lungs caused by his bronchiolitis as an infant. Generally, our food is strong on leafy greens, nuts and seeds. You can see some of the recipes from the blog here.
Next up, I’d like to get a really good vegetarian or vegan cook book. We eat meat once or twice a week, but even then our meals focus on the vegetables. I would LOVE to hear about your best cook books!
